Play a key role in delivering sustainable transport infrastructure for the Transport Strategy Division.
The Transport Strategy section is responsible for the delivery of capital transport infrastructure projects. Leicester City Council successfully secured funding from the Department of Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund to develop and improve infrastructure for buses, walking and cycling by delivering a £70m programme of improvements. We are in the second year of a three-year delivery programme. We are also in the process of developing further sustainable transport programmes for delivery beyond 2024.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Based partly at City Hall, you’ll have the flexibility to work from home. However, you’ll work across the city to visit projects on site, attend project meetings, all of which will be a combination of face to face and online.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll lead on the delivery of major projects, project management activities and procurement exercises to appoint contractors and consultants. Leading on stakeholder engagement, you’ll engage with members of the public to promote projects. You’ll have regular contact with your Team Leader and project managers to discuss work activities and develop the teams, skills in project management. Communicating regularly with colleagues, you’ll chair meetings with internal and external project management teams, present to politicians and senior management, as well as liaise with consultants, contractors, and members of the public.
What you’ll need
With a proven track record in delivering large, complex projects or a range of smaller projects in highways, transport or construction related field, you’ll have experience of successfully embedding organisational change. You’ll have experience of partnership working especially with a wide range of people at a variety of levels, including senior management. Using a high level of oral and written communication skills, you’ll be able to present complex information clearly and concisely to stakeholders and command the confidence of others. An effective leader, you’ll have strong project management skills, to ensure projects are meeting key performance indicators. Self-motivated, pragmatic, and dynamic, you’ll be dedicated to successfully delivering projects within set timescales and to budget.
