Do you enjoy carrying out investigations and can be dynamic within your role? We are looking for an insurance professional to join the Insurance Services team in handling insurance claims.
You’ll be responsible for investigating and processing a wide variety of personal injury and property damage claims on behalf of the council and their insurance company. Reporting to the Principal Insurance & Claims Officer and other colleagues, you’ll also assist with assessing insurance requirements, providing advice to departments and recommend and prepare cases to be challenged in court.
This role would suit a candidate who already has insurance experience and is looking for a fresh new challenge and to develop their skills in claims handling. We are committed to ongoing development of our employees, including inhouse and external training where appropriate.
What you’ll be doing
Working in a small team, you’ll manage a caseload of personal injury and property damage claims. You’ll carry out desktop investigations with departments but may also be required to visit sites and meetings to progress and prioritise claims. In your role, you’ll help Leicester City Council fulfil their legal and insurance related responsibilities ensuring the right outcome based on your investigations, including any potential cases of fraud.
Day to day, you’ll use your knowledge of common law negligence and understanding of risk management to recommend action on a wide range of insurance claims. Investigating cases, you’ll liaise with a variety of council staff across various departments to advise on cases affecting them. You’ll also work with claimants and their legal representatives to come to a positive resolution, as well as arrange site meetings to determine circumstances surrounding specific incidents.
Supporting other departments of the Council and schools, you’ll advise on the protection afforded by the council’s insurance arrangements.
You’ll also be able to support and advise departments on any identified risk issues to improve ways of working and defensibility of claims. With this, you’ll support the Principal Insurance & Claims Officer in managing the Council’s insurance contracts, maintaining systems and providing accurate and up-to-date management information.
What You’ll Need
Essentially, you will have a wide knowledge of common law negligence and claims handling procedures, through experience of working in a relevant insurance or legal role, be naturally investigative and have the desire to get to the route of every incident claim.
You’ll also have an understanding of risk management and how claims can be avoided and defended.
Good spoken and written communication skills are essential, interpersonal ability, and the skill to deal with a range of contacts including claimants in person and their representatives. A natural thirst for investigation is also essential so to ensure that insurance claims against the council are properly prepared, costs justified, and handled inline with corporate and legal procedures.
