Pindar Nursery is based with the Early Years Support Team and is part of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Support Service. The nursery supports children aged 2 to 5 with SEND and /or complex health needs attending Pindar Nursery.
We are looking for an excellent early year’s teacher with experience of working children with special educational needs and disability to work as part of the nursery team.
This is a full time position, based on teachers pay and conditions, 39 weeks per year term time only. The position would be on site at New Parks House.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be jointly responsible for the teaching and learning of all children at Pindar nursery including their welfare while on site, alongside the Senior Nursery Teacher and teaching assistants. This also involves writing reports and maintaining effective service records. You’ll assess each child’s needs on entry, support parents and carers as well as liaising with other professionals involved with the child from education, health, and social care.
What you’ll need
Enthusiasm and a great sense of humour are imperative for this position and being an effective teacher. Having up to date knowledge of SEND issues, including legislation and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A post-graduate qualification in a related area of SEND is desirable, or else the willingness to undertake a course leading to such a qualification.
As a qualified teacher, you will hold Qualified Teacher Status and have experience in Special Educational Needs including experience of working with children in the early years. Being a successful teacher in mainstream or SEN schools you will have the ability to work across the foundation stage and in a variety of types of settings. Having an informed understanding of the key issues for SEND including complex learning difficulties, language and communication difficulties and autism, you’ll also have an understanding of the key issues for SEND on a local and national level as well as knowledge of legislation and good practice.
You will deputise for the Senior Nursery Teacher as the professional lead for all nursery staff and using your excellent interpersonal skills, you’ll be able to relate positively to young children, parents, setting and school staff teams and other professionals providing advice and direction. Using proficient IT skills, you’ll be able to clearly present guidance for the team and deliver training. As a positive communicator, you’ll make use of your abilities to listen, support, motivate and influence others.
