This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and customer-focussed individual who is interested in developing their skills across a wide range of leisure centre roles. Working predominantly as a Fitness Instructor you’ll undertake a Leisure Team Member apprenticeship working across a range of job roles to become a valued member of the leisure centre team. You'll play a key role in transforming the Council’s approach to Sport, Leisure and Exercise.
After 3 years of delivering year on year improvements Sports Services now have in place ambitious plans to ‘step up the service’ to take us to the next level. Exciting plans for capital improvement have been approved and the Service is growing in confidence and ambition to continue the next phase of transformation and improvement.
You’ll be based at Evington Leisure Centre but may be required to work at one our other leisure centres across the city.
This is a full-time, fixed term post for 18 months working 37 hours per week including, evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays on a rota basis.
What you’ll be doing
As an enthusiastic and motivating Fitness Instructor, you’ll provide an excellent service for customers and services as you help them to reach their fitness goals. You’ll undertake operational support such as cleaning and maintenance, as well as administrative tasks such as managing complex customer enquiries. You’ll assist in the sale of memberships including processing Direct Debits.
In addition, you’ll work across several different job roles as part of the Leisure Team Member apprenticeship undertaking a range of qualifications and gaining experience in duties such as Lifeguarding, Swim Teaching and Fitness Instructing.
What you’ll need
With an interest in fitness, you’ll have experience of dealing with members of the public on a face to face basis. You’ll have experience in providing clear and concise information and advice to members and be able to effectively deal with distressed or abusive service users/public in a sensitive and efficient manner. With proficient IT skills and experience of using Microsoft Office software packages including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, you’ll be able to maintain accurate computerised records and EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) systems. As a strong swimmer with confidence in water, you’ll be comfortable in undertaking all parts of the apprenticeship, both wet-side and dry-side.
