Working in one of our Leisure Centres can be such a rewarding career, even when it starts off just doing a few hours a week.
Kyle Harrison, Leisure Centre Supervisor tells us about his career journey with #teamleicester so far.
I joined the council around about the same time that the Active Leicester initiative came in. All the new gyms were being built and it was such an exciting time to join. I started my journey on a casual contract as a Fitness Instructor but was keen to pick up different duties, so I always jumped at the opportunity to visit the park gyms and events to advertise everything we had to offer. I was eager to make a change and always felt supported by my management, so when the supervisor role became available at Cossington gym, I went for it. At the time it was a small gym that hadn’t gone through the re-model, so I got to witness and push forward my own visions which was really cool. The council, initially, put me through my Building Responsibility Officer (BRO) course and my Pool Planned Operations (PPO) course and are still investing in me to this day. I have recently completed my swim teaching training and I’m very grateful to be in an organisation that really does nurture your career development. There are so many people within the service at the moment who are being put through various different training opportunities to develop, so if you’d like to become one of them, why not come join me?
We currently have casual vacancies at New Parks, Cossington, Evington Street Centres, Ayelstone, Beamount Leys, Braunstone and Spence Street. Hours of work can be discussed at interview. As we've recently just started a brand new Junior Gym Scheme this role will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Also, you must have an appropriate award at level 2 for your area of activity. E.g.
