Taking overall responsibility for managing the council’s budget monitoring and accounting cycle. As well as the proper processing of the council’s financial records due to internal progression we are now recruiting to a chief accountant.
Joining our Corporate Accountancy team, with approximately 14 council employees who are responsible for preparing accounts, corporate budget monitoring, systems support and financial controls. As chief accountant you will manage and inspire by creating opportunities to be creative and innovative, supporting team development and encouraging autonomy to enable everyone to do their best work.
Working on projects to deliver change and contribute to our strategic financial planning. You will play a key role in not only the finance service support and development but plans across the authority.
In this role you will work 37 hours per week utilising our flexible working policy. Usually based at City Hall, the team are currently working a hybrid of home and office based that best suits their needs.
What you’ll be doing
As chief account you will advise the Council’s most senior officers and present reports to elected members. Contributing to the development of the Council’s medium term financial strategy and policies.
Leading and directing your team, you will have management responsibilities to ensure your teams are best placed to protect the integrity of our financial systems and data. You will oversee their work on corporate accounting (including preparation of our statutory accounts), budget monitoring, financial systems development, capital programme preparation and monitoring.
What You’ll Need
You will be an experienced accountant with substantial local government finance experience. You must have an aptitude for finance systems, being able to provide high level strategic advice in a clear understandable manner.
As a leader you will also be able to not only manage but develop staff. Showing problem-solving skills with the ability to show decisiveness, innovation and creative thinking.
