Full-time / 37 hours per week / Permanent
Are you dedicated to maximising the potential of every child and young person with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities?
Following the introduction of the Children and Families Act 2014, Leicester City has developed an approach and set of processes for supporting children and young people with SEND, with Education, Health and Care Inclusion Officers playing a key role within our teams.
Be part of a dynamic and vibrant team coordinating and managing the administration of statutory assessment procedures for children with special educational needs and disabilities in line with relevant government legislation.
This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. You’ll have flexibility in hybrid working. You’ll be based at New Parks House for two days a week working alongside colleagues and will work remotely from home the other three days a week.
What you’ll be doing
With every child at the heart of your role, you’ll prepare, propose, and amend Education, Health and Care Plans for individual pupils, ensuring that the provision is complete and deliverable. Working in collaboration with multiple agencies, you’ll ensure a consistent approach is maintained to maximise the potential of all our pupils. Liaising with the Resource Allocation Panel you’ll prepare cases for discussion and carry out follow up actions in the light of decisions made including liaison with providers, parents, and other professionals. Attending complex and contentious Annual Reviews you’ll deal with the resulting recommendations, and coordination of Annual Reviews including Education and Health Care plans for permanently excluded pupils. Furthermore, you’ll be responsible preparing and co-ordinating the LA's submissions to the SEND Tribunal and oral representation of the LA at Appeal Hearings.
What you’ll need
You’ll have experience of Special Educational Needs within a Local Authority or statutory body, ideally within a specialist area involving multi-professional assessment and appeal procedures. Using knowledge of the Children’s and Families Act, you’ll be able to follow the statutory process for an Education, Health and Care Plan. You’ll be able to work confidently with parents, schools, and other agencies, providing clear and concise advice and guidance. Working in a sensitive and confidential environment, you’ll be proactive, working to relevant timescales in a professional and timely manner. Fully committed to the aims and objectives of social inclusion, you’ll be dedicated to removing discrimination where it occurs.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance.
