The Learning, Communication and Interaction Team is part of the council’s wider Special Educational Needs Support Service. We work across the city and beyond to promote, support and ensure the highest outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Our friendly and supportive team of highly skilled professionals assist children and young people (CYP), along with school staff, in the areas of learning, language and social communication needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to children and young people in their learning journeys and to be a vital support to schools. Primarily based at New Parks House, you’ll be able to travel across the city to different settings. You’ll have the flexibility to work remotely at other council settings or at home.
What you'll be doing
Managing your own caseload and diary, you’ll work with schools to advise on the preparation and implementation of individual programmes and reviews of progress. You’ll work directly with CYP to assess and evaluate learning needs and make recommendations on how best to support the needs of the individual. You’ll model how to implement advice to ensure CYP on your caseload make progress in their areas of need. Supporting the school SENCo, and other staff around SEND processes, you’ll work collaboratively with a range of professionals, schools, and families to achieve positive outcomes. You’ll attend meetings and write reports for EHCP educational assessments as well as statutory reviews.
This is a part-time temporary position comprising of a 0.6 contract (19.5 hours/three days per week). The post is temporary, for one academic year, in the first instance.
The start date for this position is 24th August 2023, however, for the right candidate we are willing to delay start date until 23rd October 2023,should that be necessary.
Teacher’s Pay and Conditions apply. Up to UPS3 £443685 and TLR2a £4,498, pro-rata for 0.6.
What you’ll need
Resilient yet flexible, you’ll have extensive experience of working with children and young people with social communication and interaction needs including autism. This includes leading and delivering a range of specialist interventions, programmes, strategies, and resources as well as training. You’ll have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to surmount potential challenges and engage positively with children and young people. You’ll be able to build and maintain strong working relationships within the team and other professionals, including your caseload schools. As an advocate for children and young people, you’ll have a clear commitment to enabling children and young people to fully participate in their own educational experience. As a qualified teacher you will hold QTS status, ideally with further qualifications in SEND.
