The Transport Strategy section is responsible for the delivery of capital transport infrastructure projects. Leicester City Council have secured funding from the Department of Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund to develop and improve infrastructure for buses, walking and cycling.
We are looking for suitably experienced Project Managers to assist with the delivery of major transport projects and to ensure projects are progressing as anticipated and that the project delivers the outcomes that were initiated to achieve.
You’ll be based partly at City Hall as well as have the flexbility to work from home. This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll encourage the uptake of sustainable travel by managing the delivery of projects from inception to the delivery stage. Leading on project management activities and procurement exercises you’ll appoint contractors and consultants. Communicating with stakeholders and engaging with members of the public, you’ll promote projects. You’ll work across the City to visit projects on site, set up and chair project meetings, public and stakeholder engagement meetings as well as attend Lead Member briefings to present project updates, all of which will be a combination of face to face and on-line.
What you’ll need
You’ll need experience in managing major transport or construction projects, managing project teams and a project management qualification (or relevant experience). You should have strong communication, planning and organisational skills, as well as good numeracy, analytical and IT skills to help produce budgeting sheets and write reports. You will also need the ability to negotiate, manage and motivate others and have good problem-solving skills.
