Join us to lead a fast paced and future focussed Fleet Services Team. We aim to deliver a safe, legal, efficient, and progressive fleet service that is continuously improving to meet the needs of current and future customers.
Based at 86 Leycroft Road, you’ll be responsible for a team of 21 people including a workshop manager and a fleet operations manager whilst overseeing all fleet management functions in relation to a mixed fleet of 750 vehicles and plant. You’ll ensure effective working schedules and records are in place so that the service can meet our Vehicle Off Road targets comply with our legal Fleet Operator duties and Health and Safety.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours a week from Monday to Friday. However flexibility is required for the needs of the service as there will be some weekends and evening working.
What you’ll be doing
Leading on the fleet replacement scheme, you’ll oversee technical specifications, large scale procurement exercises and contract management. You’ll work towards our targets linked to climate change, monitoring budgets and the hiring of vehicles. You’ll offer support, development, and constructive challenge to your team and ensure that policies including Health and Safety are adhered to. Responsible for a 4.5 million budget, you’ll deliver value for money as well as make recommendations for improvements in efficiency. You’ll write complex reports, brief senior officers, and manage internal and external relationships professionally. You’ll represent the Local Authority at meetings, tribunals or in Court.
What you'll need
With a track record of strong leadership, you’ll have experience of implementing change for improvement. Alongside experience in a senior transport services role, you’ll have in depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair operations and technical knowledge of a wide variety of vehicles to allow the production of accurate specifications. You’ll be accurate and driven to ensure that the fleet service is a beacon of good practice and best value putting the team, our green aspirations and corporate awareness at the top of your agenda. Highly organised, dynamic, and passionate, you’ll create a positive working environment. Your enthusiasm should inspire in others, a passion for this area of work thinking creatively, inclusively and corporately to deliver our own and shared objectives.
You’ll hold a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Transport Management.
